In tropical regions, sustaining crop production to meet increasing demand is a top priority for scientists due to the conversion of tropical ecosystems for other purposes posing a significant threat. European conquerors introduced or adopted crops in these regions, known as tropical crops. Soil, being a habitat for microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, protozoa, micro-algae, and viruses, plays a crucial role.

Beneficial soil microbes are used in crop production as biofertilizers, biopesticides, and phytostimulators, enhancing plant resilience. Biofertilizers from effective indigenous microorganisms improve soil properties, leading to better crop growth and yields.

Additionally, plants supply carbon to soil microbes, forming a mutually beneficial relationship that plays a vital role in improving crop growth and yields in threatened tropical ecosystems.
